HAPPY MLK DAY!  On October 16, 2011, President Barack Obama dedicated the Martin Luther King Memorial, a 30 foot sculpture in the likeness of Dr. King, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.  Today, we honor Dr. King for his "life" sacrifice in quest of freedom, equality, opportunity, hope, and love for all people.

The official vision statement for the memorial notes:

"Dr. King championed a movement that draws fully from the deep well of America’s potential for freedom, opportunity, and justice. His vision of America is captured in his message of hope and possibility for a future anchored in dignity, sensitivity, and mutual respect; a message that challenges each of us to recognize that America’s true strength lies in its diversity of talents."

I had the opportunity to visit the MLK Memorial in January, 2012, with my daughter.  As a parent, it was an honor and unforgettable experience to share, with my daughter, this display of history we can be proud of.  As we stood there, I talked to my daughter about the hopes and dreams I had for her and my other two children.  If you plan a family trip to Washington, D.C., include a visit to the MLK Memorial.
